Firmware update failure, now dead player

I have an apex AD500WM. I put in a disc that gave me an option to chose DTS digital which I picked by mistake (not hooked up) and then got only random squares on the screen on any disc. Could not get it changed back so tried a firmware upgrade (back to original). Seemed to work ok but after removeing the disc now the player is dead except for the little red light by the power button. Door won't open, no response from panel buttons or remote. Have I just made a doorstop?

DTS is sound, so shouldn't display squares. Sounds like new player time. Don't know how long you have had the Apex, but Apex units don't last very long, at least mine haven't.
