Stupid questions but does the size of am MPG that will fin on a VCD go by the play length of the video or by the file size? Is there a way to tell in advance how much over or under the VCD will be ?

    thanks

  2. If you are using TMPGEnc to encode your MPEG file, my settings always give me 10MB for every minute of my video. For example, 60 minutes of video will give me ~600MB of MPEG file size.

  3. Assuming you've made your MPEG file exactly to VCD specs, 1 minute of VCD video will fit on 1 minute on the CD.

That is, if you are using 74 min media, you can fit on 74 min of video (and ditto for 80 min media). Now, there is a little bit of overhead so you should allow for about 20-30 seconds worth from capacity if you don't want to overburn.

The corresponding filesizes are about 740MB for a 74min/650MB disc and about 796MB for an 80min/700MB disc.

Yes, those numbers are correct. If you don't know why you can fit more on a VCD compared to a CD-ROM, just do a search of the forums.

  5. Search for "CD FAQ" with Google then.
