Hi, I bought the entire season 5 of 24, and it comes in WMV at 2,500kbps, I have no problem viewing it, but my mother doesn't speak english so well, and she found the .srt spanish subtitles, and I tried to do what I always do with the .srt files and DIVX or avi files, which is renamenig both the video and subtitles the same and puttting them on the same folder, but it doesn't work with the WMV file.

Is there a way to view a WMV with subtitles? A non permanent way? I can't re-enconde it.

    thanks in advanced

I can't seem to find much information on subtitles and WMV. If you could add them, I'm not sure what player would play them.

But one thought is trying VLC Media Player. It handles subtitles fairly well and plays some versions of WMV's. If you open the WMVs in VLC using 'Open File', it will give you a requester for subtitles and you could direct it to them. I think it would be worth a try.

Converting them to Divx or similar would take a long time. Here's a thread about converting, but I'm guessing you don't really want to do that. http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t284531.html

But don't give up just yet. We may have some members that are more familiar with this type of problem.

    And welcome to our forums.

    Thanks,

I just tried the VLC media player and it doesn't even play the file, I just get green and black squares(big pixels?).

And I can't convert it to anything since is license protected, the file just let me back it up in it's original state in a DVD, but only as a file.

    Thanks again.

If you remove the DRM infection then VLC should work. Also you can convert. No reason why directvobsub shouldn't work with wmv's though.

    Thanks

I don't know how to remove DRM, I don't even know if that's what it has as protection, all I know is that the first time you try to run the file it ask you for the activation code and it only works in this PC if I try to view the file in another PC it doesn't work. I have Directvobsub and it doesn't work with this WMV, it does work with AVI and DIVX, but not with this WMV.

When I try to convert the video to DIVX it gives me an error when is analizing the file. And it's the only converter I have.

BTW this is the site that I bought the series from www.direct2drive.com

Try FairUse4wm... Works nice with wma, and is reported to do equally well with wmv.

The DRM probably prevents dvobsub from inserting itself into the graph. Makes sense since otherwise you could insert a filter to dump the unencrypted audio/video. With the DRM removed, it should work.

    thanks everyone!

The problem is not solved yet, but I wrote to that page support and they are looking into this. I hope they can come up with a solution.

    Thanks again

Well, they(sellers) couldn't found a way to solve this. So I tried using the DRM removal tool you recomended, but it still doesn't play the .srt file. Directvobsub doens't even starts with the video file.

Thanks, yeah I want to create a DVD with subtitles, but I can't even view the video with subtitles to see if they are in sync, VLC doesn't even play the file. If I manage to view them What's the best way to synchronize .srt subtitles to the video?

    Thanks again.

Try loading the de-DRMed wmv in VirtualDubMPG2. There, you can add the subtitles with a filter. Odd that VLC doesn't play the wmv id you removed the DRM..

I tried VirtualDub and it can't load the file either. I know, it's wierd, maybe the program didn't removed the DRM or it has some other form of protection.

Sure you used latest VirtualDubMPG2? Other versions can't read wmv at all (drm'ed or not).
Did fairuse4wm say it succeded? Maybe do it over again and pay attention the the messages from fairuse4wm.

    FairUse4VW says 1 File converted 0 errors 0 warnings.

    AndVirtualDub says:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format "WVC1" (uknown)

Virtual Dub requires a VFW compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable.

Well, at least I was able to convert them and burn then into a DVD with subtitles.

I used VLC to hear the audio and see the subtitles, that way I knew how how much out of sync they were, and then used the resync tool that comes with VobSub and sync them. It takes a long time, from removing the DRM to viewingthe substitles and resync them adn the converting the video to Vob and burning them, and I can only fit 2 episodes in a DVD, so it will take 12 DVD's, but it works!

I hope I can figure out a quicker way to do this in the futer, but right now at least I can have the seson I bought with subtitles and in DVD!

    Thansk for all your help.

Well, I spoke to soon, It has some minor artifacts, which are tolerable, but the audio is out of sync! I don't know why, but it is! oh and about 1/3 into the episode the subtitles get out of sync!

It's incredible that by supporting the series and buying it legit, I can't have susbtitules and I can't burn it decent to DVD! Next time I will stick to downloading the Divx files.

    Thanks again.
