    I want a piece of equipment that can read HI8 and minidv tapes.

    Is there anything of the sort that does both?

    I believe 1 model was made (no longer) that was a dual deck. Didn't do either of them well. I'd strongly recommend buying only the deck/camcorder for the one format you intend to continue using, and renting/borrowing the other.
