I convert iMovie DV's to MPEG-1. Almost always, though, when I play it back in Quicktime it works fine until I skip ahead (fast forward, if you will). Then the frame freezes, the timer keeps going, and I have no audio. Usually, however, it plays just fine in Window Media Player. Occationally, it will have the same problem in that program, too. I desparately need to find out what the problem is.

    Settings are as follows:
ffmpeg, VCD size, Best video bitrate, 64 audio bitrate, mono, CBR, .mp2.

Do I need to decode with QT? Any suggestions would be helpful.

You should test if this is an encoder issue or a player issue. Do your have other MPEG-1 files with the same specs that are encoded by another tool? Do they play/FF better?

Thanks for the reply. I have checked that. I've made MPEG-1 files with Studio 9 that work perfectly. When I drop the file into ffmpegX it gives me the same specs for both the Studio created file and the ffmpeg engine file. I have the same problem when I play the created MPEG-1 file on my Mac QT Pro and my Windows QT, plus it has problems occationally in WMP. Any other thoughts?

The ffmpeg engine and the mpeg2enc engine produce different MPEG-1 files. So you might check out how the the other engine's output file behaves.

That's a constant problem in the ffmpeg mpeg-1 engine. I don't know what's causing this problem though (broken muxer ?). Open your files with MPEG Streamclip, then choose "Convert To MPEG". This should remux the file properly.
