I understand that dvd discs from different parts of the world can only be played in paticular countries (ZONES) Is there a web site that tells you how the world is split up and the zone number that is shown on most discs

    Actually, they are called REGIONS.
    ICBM target coordinates:
    26° 14' 7.62"N
    80° 16' 0.78"W

And that only applies if you are using a region specific dvd player.

If you have a dvd player that the region check can be shut off, they will play any region dvd or you can rip it and burn it back to a dvdr and then play it in even a region specific player because then the region coding is gone.

Then you need to know what format the dvd is in, PAL or NTSC and will your player play either or both of these video formats.
