    So do you??

I'd say less than half the time I do. If I can't figure it out on the first pass I'll flip through the book.

    :P

    Edit:
Well, i guess you could interpret "?????" as "what Manual ?"

I voted 50/50 but it's probably more like 70% of the time I do, but it depends on what the item is.

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Most items you can figure out with a little common sense.

And most manuals seem to be written by foreigners that don't speak your language (whatever it may be, where you are). So they are limited help anyway.

Most of the time, I need a manual to figure out how to set the clock or see what warning lights mean.

I always glance at it and get annoyed. I read when there is a problem though.

I thought I'd be a little more tactful than that. Though I almost put it up there anyway

I try not to read manuals, however it is a bad thing not to do something that is really important that is listed in the manual, like remove transit bolts from front load washers before you use them. I've had people on the phone asking why their new washing machine is dancing across the floor. I ask them if they removed the transit bolts, and they go "what bolts?"

I will read the manual about half the time. Most of the time, it is common sense stuff, like don't stick your finger in a light socket. :P

Most things you can use 90% of the features without needing a manual if you are technically minded. However I like to read the manuals to find out what features are not obvious even if I am never going to use them

If it's something I've done numerous times (installing most PC components, DVD players, TVs etc etc) I'll usually have a crack without the manual as it's normally not too hard to figure out. If it's something I'm doing for the first time then I'll browse the manual just to make sure I'm doing it right.
    If in doubt, Google it.

It depends on what the manual is for. If it's a motherboard, I read it from cover to cover. I even DL the manuals in advance of ordering a motherboard, so I don't have to study it after the MB arrives. If it's a couple of hundred pages, like my DVR manual, I haven't finish that one yet. If it's for software, only when I have to.

    Yep,

I once read a manual that said to create a new file by hitting the delete button.

  24. I usually buy the same manf's stuff, so it works the same. I need the manual if I need specific codes to the remote.

Otherwise I expect the machine to read my mind.

    Your mean 'their' ? hehe

Anyways, I try to read the manual at some point just to make sure all the bases
are covered....but it seems most of the time I get the manual written in a
different lang that makes no sense at all.

Don't scream RTFM if you haven't already

I also read the manuals for features I might not know about.

...actually it's more of a skimming over the bolded title sections.
