Every time I try to convert an Xvid avi file into an mpg VCD file using TMPGEnc it will only work for the first 7 or 8 seconds and then it will stop converting the video but continue converting the audio.
I used to be able to get aroud this by converting the Xvid into a diffrent format avi using Virtual Dub but I recently had to do a system restore and now I run into the same vid freezing after 8 seconds problem using Virtual Dub as well
I can play the video just fine but it will only work in VLC media player.

That would suggest that you have a codec conflict. Run GSpot and do a codec test of your file and see how many codecs you got installed for that file. Then download one of those DS Filter Managers and just the merit of the codecs so they don't conflict.
