  1. My cable box is a HD Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000. It has two Firewire ports on it. Can I connect the Firewire port to the Firewire port on my PC without causing damage? I know the Firewire is sending a video signal and I would like to capture it with my Ulead DV software I use to capture from my DV camcorder through the Firewire.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks

Perhaps. Chances are you won't be able to have it recognised as a camera, so you will have to use a transfer app that can just grab the DV stream. I know Vegas can do this if you turn off device control.

  3. Ok, I connected it up and my Monitor turned a blue haze. I disconnected it ASAP, but my Monitor is still a blue haze. I shut down my PC, then booted it back up. It is still a blue haze, even while it is posting.

    Any ideas?

I am surprised it affected your monitor if it was just going into your firewire card. Are you sure you didn't bump another cable while plugging things in and out ?

im surprised those ports are active - most cable companies have not activated them

I've got my Motorola 6412 connected via firewire to my HTPC and it works great. I can capture anything but premium channels (HBO, CineMax, etc.) But I can capture the INHD channels and any other HD channels in Hi-Def.

You need a couple of programs and the drivers to make it work.

There's thread on avs forum about it...not sure if your box is supported or not.
