  1. Hi, I am just getting in video editing, and after a lot of research, I've decided that I want to try to learn how to use AVISynth. It seems like the best program out there for what I want to do.

However, I am really intimidated by the scripting requirements. I have no idea how to do that. Can anyone tell me what AVSEdit scripting tool does? Is that what teaches me how to use AVISynth?

    Thanks so much,
    Chris

AVSEdit is a simple IDE for AVS scripts - a tailored editor, if you will. It knows a lot of avisynth plugins, as well as the built in filters, hints and completes commands, and has a very good in-built help file. If you have programmed with something like visual basic, it is a similar, although much simpler, environment.

If you are converting avi files to DVD through avisynth, then FitCD is a must. It builts basic scripts for you for resizing video, and is a good starting point for build blocks.

You might also want to have a read of this post -> http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=297929 which has some good beginner scripts, as well as a couple of good links

Start simple, preview often. Use virtualdub, just to test and preview scripts. If you have something wrong, vdub will tell you, and can usually point to the line as well.

Good luck, and ask lots of questions. It took me a while to start learning it because I didn't think I had the time, but once you start, it gets easier and easier, and now I regret not having played sooner.

AVSEdit's best feature is its helpfile on all AVISynth commands and plugins. Hit F1 to access, as always.
