    I have a Creative DXR3 system in my PC.
    When I playback a DVD on my TV the screen changes between a light and dark image.
    Does anyone have similar problem, or know why?

    How is it connected??
    Is there a VCR in the path?? If so remove it.
    Your problem sounds like Macrovision.

    bit of a funny way really !!

    The tv-out on my PC goes into my Hi-Fi which has:
    3 video ins (PC, VCR & DV Camera)
    1 Monitor out (to my TV)
    1 video out (to video in on my VCR)

    The selector on the Hi-Fi displays the appropriate image on the tv and sends an image to the VCR for recording.

    So yes I think the macro is picking up the VCR although not directly in the chain.
