  1. Hi, I have the movie Das Boot in AVI format and I want to burn it to a DVD-R and watch as DIVX. As the movie is in German and I want to read in English, how do I add subtitles to the file to be burned along with the avi file?

You could try just name the sub same as the video like
    video.avi
    video.srt
and burn on dvd/cd, it works on some divx players.

    or

use AviSub that muxes the sub in the avi, it works on most divx players.

    Hello there!
This AviSub program seems to be very functional! But I made my first try and didn't have good results, unfortunately.
With AviSub I loaded an AVI file and an SRT subtitles file. Both were loaded with no problems. I selected Spanish, as the language I wanted because the subtitle file is in that language. Then I clicked on "Generate Subbed Avi" and it began generating BMP fies with subtitles. And when it finished, it came a little window telling me that the job was done, and telling me the location of the new avisub.divx file, but in fact there was nothing new there. In the the temporary folder I can see all the BMP's and some other files.
The AVI I used says in its properties:

    --544 X 416 pixels
    --Audio: 96 kbps / MPEG Layer-3
    --Video: 23 frames/sec / 107 kbps / 24 bits / DivX codec

Can you throw me a light about the problem I am having?

In advance, thank you very much.
    Regards.

    Hello back!
I forgot to say that my DVD player is DivX certifief, and that untill now, it has never rejected to play back any kind of film, in the many existing formats, that I have tried to play wihth it.
    It is a Bellagio AD2020.
But as I said before, I haen't been able to see subtitles using avi, divx films, with the method of putting the film together with the subtitles in the same folder.
    That's all by now.
    Regards.
