Laptop mobo swap question....

Has anyone swapped out their laptop motherboard? why i asK? well the wife dropped the laptop and it landed on the side where the pcmcia wireless card was. the force cracked the pcmcia cage connector that attached to the mobo. So nothing will power on when inserted into the pcmcia slot. I do have a wireless USB adapter that i am using now but i cant use my pcmcia firewire card. i have taken my laptop apart before to replace the DC power jack. First im gonna see if i can repair the crack connector. So if i do replace the mobo, i need to get the exact model number of the motherboard, right? My laptop now runs the AMD XP-M 2500+ chip so does the motherboard need to me made for that or will the same mobo that ran a P4 also run a AMD? thanks

No ... amd and p4 chip's use different socket type's , and are not compatable ... that went out back in the day's of super socket 7 motherboard's ... good time's .

So your only option is to either repair the damage , or replace the board with the same socket type as used by the processor .

If the damage is only to the connector on the motherboard , try repairing it ... if that dosent work , or the component is hard to locate a replacement for , then replace the board itself .

Even if the board repair or replacement work's , you can still have other issue's with the unit ...such as lcd screen's dont like being dropped , and may fail to work .

HP does but they want $450 for one but i have found some off ebay that are the exact part number from $50-$300

eBay is the way to go for laptop parts replacements. By stripping down a laptop I can get several hundred dollars selling on eBay.
