    After about a decade of loyal service my 17 inch CRT monitor finally died. I was there when it happened, it was crackling and popping then th epicture went away, followed by an in and out humming noise, i pulled the plug.

    So anyhow, in desperate need of a monitor I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a 19 inch Proview widescreen monitor..

    It's pretty spritzy compared to my last monitor, it cost $267. I wasn't able to get much useful information from the box, contents or manufacturers website, but here's what I've got;

    * 19" widescreen TFT active matrix LCD
    * Widescreen (16:9) ratio for the true big picture
    * LCD technology means a slender panel
    * Proview's new ultra thin design delivers the ultimate in space-saving convenience
    * Resolution - 1440 x 900
    * Contrast ratio = 500:1
    * 8ms
    * 300 brightness
    * Analog
    * Crisp black

    It's a pretty nice monitor, but I'm thinking I could possibly get something even better for the same price. Can anyone make a good suggestion on a similarly priced LCD monitor that is 19 inches & widescreen?

    I saw this one on newegg.com

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116373

    It's a ViewSonic, it seems like it is better than the monitor I currently have because it has DVI.

    Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

  2. Do you have access to Costco? They have a Sceptre 19 inch for $229 (after coupon), with a 700:1 contrast ratio and DVI as well.

    I've never heard of the Sceptre brand, are they any good?

  4. In general Costco only sells quality products. But I've seen the brand around for quite a while now.

    If I can get something beter at a similar price, I have no qualms with using this monitor until I get a suitable replacement and then returning this one back to Wal-Mart for a refund.

    Check http://www.bensbargains.net/ to find a Dell 19" LCD for just $219 as well as some other choices from other vendors.
