What does above trying to indicate? I thought 4:3 digital NTSC has 0.9091 pixel aspect ratio at 720x480?

Beats me. Square pixel would be 768x576 for 4:3 and 1024x576 for 16:9

600/480 = 1.25



both of the above are correct for 5:4 ratio monitors and 1280 by 1024 pixels, and 1600 by 1280 pixels ratio panels ...

If DVPro is 1.25 in aspect ratio whereas NTSC is 1.333. Wouldn't the image become stretched or cropped when captured to PC?

Standard TV has a 4:3 aspect ratio, not NTSC .. but "standard tv" these days often more and more means wide screen and 5:4 aspect ratios ... or 4:3 aspect ratio ..

in other words - being ntsc doesnt mean it has to be 4:3 BUT if it is ITU-R BT.601 (also known as "CCIR-601" or "Rec.601"), and that requires a horizontal sampling rate of 13.5 MHz and an active line of 720 samples, then the pixel aspect ratio for 525-line video (NTSC) is 10:11. The pixel aspect ratio for 625-line video (PAL) is 59:54


but -- square pixels even then are not really square ! They have an aspect ratio of 768:767, which is very close to 1:1, but which is not truly exactly 1:1

Why is it only 600x480 square pixels? If I'm capturing from standard 4:3 NTSC TV cannot I have 640x480 square pixels displayed on my PC screen?
