Basically what I'm after is a unit with a DVD Recorder (pref. DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM) and a VCR Recorder. I'd prefer the unit to have a twin tuner so I can record off say BBC1 & Cable TV. I also want to be able to record from VCR to DVD and vice versa.

Am not looking for anything mega expensive - the cheaper the better. The unit must be reliable though. We have a JVC DR-MV1B at the moment which is playing up every time we set the timer.

Can anyone list any units that fit my description? Something similar to the JVC perhaps which DOES WORK PROPERLY?

    TIA

Honestly, I would avoid all combo units.

    Yeah, me to.

If one part breaks down you have to send both parts in to the repairer is a good enough reason.

  4. I do not believe there are any current production combos with twin tuners except the JVC's. You would have to go back to the Panasonic E75 from maybe two years ago. It had twin tuners and was a combo.

The JVC SR-MV40US is a DVD-R & S-VHS/VHS combo unit that is a part of the JVC "professional" line of video products.

This is probably the best you can buy in such a combo unit.

Unfortunately the price is high with a MSRP of $499.00 US Dollars.

However using PRICEGRABBER.COM I found it for as low as $381.00 US Dollars + shipping.

I agree with avoiding the combo units for the same reason mentioned by pyst. If you must go for one then the JVC DR-MV5S unit can be had for less then $200 for brand new unit (currently on closeout sale) and even less if you find a refurbished one. I tested a couple of this units and was impressed with the picture quality in various modes.
