HELP stand alone dvd recorder to pc problems

    can anyone help

i have used pc dvd progs for last few years with no probs at all.
    anydvd running, dvdshrink, clonedvd
every thing was perfect until i bought a STAND ALONE dvd recorder for my living room.

now i use dvd+rw (as recormended)
i record say 4 shows off tv.
i now want to split these 4 shows up onto my hard drive so i can put all 4 series together in the end with TMPGdvdAuther (does editing of adverts adds menus etc).
but when i take the dvd to my pc from the Stand Alone Dvd... if can copy off the VOB's

dvdshrink wont ope the disk and only shows the crap menu when i RE-Auther.
clonedvd wont open the disk or it wont copy 1 file.
and i cant copy the VOBs direct to my hard drive as i get a coping error.
i have used all different kinds of media EVEN tried a new dvd recorder

I HAVE BEEN TOLD 100's OF TIMES THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE RUBBISH MENUS THE DVD RECORDER CREATES.

can anyone recormend a Program that lets you copy off tracks from a dvd recorded on a stand alone dvd recorder.

    .........................
here are some replies from passed questions
    .........................
I am guessing you have not verified the disc in the player, (recorder)?

I have had x3 seperate set-top DVD recorders, and in all three you have to verify the disc after recording, if you want the media to be 'seen' in different players, (including Pc's).

    hi mate
    thanks for reply

but with dvd+rw you cant finalise or verify the disk
you can only do this with dvd+r or dvd-r disks
    re-writables cant be closed

    ...........................

Hi, did not know you were using rw's, sorry
Have you formatted the disc before recording onto?

    yes mate
you need to format a RW every time u put it into the recorder.
everything works fine on the recorder eg play back etc even plays on my other 2 normal dvd players.

just cant see the files when i want them on my pc. even bought 2 new dvd dvdwr roms for the pc thinking it was them.

i bought a dvd off ebay 3 weeks ago that someone else had ripped off vhs on a dvd recorder and its the same with that disk 2.

as i said i use dvdshrink, anydvd and clone dvd
can you recormend a different prog to rip off dvd files ??

    ........................

I have a liteon recorder and always use dvd+rw when its finished recording pop it it the pc and it sees 2 folders video_rm and video_ts. I copy the video_ts over to the hard drive the use TMPGEnc to author it. unfortunetly if your spliting 5 episodes you would have to edit each one at a time save them to hard drive , then put all 5 video_ts back into TMPGEnc by adding tracks then create your menu. hope this helps

    This will sound TOTALLY MENTAL

    i recorded 4 show ok,
i copied them over list trex just said ..... BUT

when i opened the VOBs in tmpg dvd auther ALL 4 shows came over as the same 1st show. eg instead of 1.batman 2.superman 3.house 4.csi

    in tmpg i got 1.batman 2.batman 3.batman 4.batman

    BEAT THAT for crazy.

Have you tried using DVDDecrypter to open the disc in File mode? This will allow you to copy the VOBs to your hard drive for further editing. Once you've got them there, you can use TDA (TMPGenc DVD Author) and import the files off your hard drive.

Alternatively, you could import the DVD Video files into TDA directly and do your editing from there.

    Cheers!

    Happy re-authoring!

    Thanks for that

yes i have tried this and even though i've been using dvd author for a few years now with no probs, when i copy over vobs with dvd decrpter i can not open/import the vobs into tmpg at all.

    STRANGE AGAIN
with i try and open the track in tmpg straight off the dvd itself (the tv was 1 hour in length) tmpg says the show is 13 hours long.

so please if anyone reads this and has had the same probs and fixed them PLEASE PLEASE let me know.

    b4 i go mental

My LiteOn 5005 does finalize +RW discs and creates chapters for each recording, and they play in DVD players. It's puzzling yours doesn't finalize +RW discs.

Some recorders don't have such a need/step/option. In general, DVD-R/W needs to be finalized, but not DVD+R/W.

I think the issue is in Video_ts.VOB, and VTS_01_1.VOB. The tool to fix this is fixVTS.

It fixed the pointers in the video files that most programs expect, so they won't give up. Click on the Brown color link, or go to the tool section. There have more details.

Are you running an earlier version of the Lite-On firmware to use the hacks?

I had problems with PC tools on my Lite-On disks prior to updating my LW-5005 to the latest firmware. Now it's no problem.

If you update you will not be able to run the hacks, and may not be able to downgrade.

Download isobuster, and use that to get those VOB files. If you did not register your isobuster, it will say the function is not available, yet it will do it for you.

If this still non-work, then look at the disc surface, it may have too many scratches already. That's why I only use DVD+R/W in good condition.

I sometimes (but not always) have a problem opening DVDs made with my LiteOn DVD recorder.

Are you trying to copy just the VOB files? Or all the files on the DVD? Because when I have a problem with the DVDs from my DVD recorder it’s the .ifo files I can’t open – they won’t copy directly, or be opened with a ripping program. But the VOB files are OK.

When I run into this problem I usually end up copying *just* the VOB files from the disc, then run VOB Merger (located in the tools section) on the files, then change the extension on the new (very large VOB) file to .mpg, then open it in any program that will open MPEG2 files.

I’ve never tried this on a disc with multiple episodes, so I’m not sure if each episode has its own set of VTS VOB files or if they are all under the same VTS. If they are all lumped together you could then use a program like Mpg2Cut2, or TMPGEnc’s Merger and Cut to edit out only the part(s) you want.

Seems like the long way of doing things, I know, but for me, it gets the job done

So I take it Vob2MPG does work either? Does for all my +RWs from my Liteon 5001/Daytek DP-30. The only ripping problem I ever have is with some BUPs when using DVD Decryptor. It will say it can't copy the BUP but if you press to continue it will copy the rest of the files to the hard drive just fine and allow them to be burned to another disc with IMGBurn.

Look at the color of this disc, and the color that written by your PC, if they are different, then the DVD recorder laser has problem.

Is dragging and dropping directly from the DVD an option, since it's a RW?

Wouldn't a laser problem make them totally unreadable? Not readable in his recorder as well is his computer, instead of just unreadable in his computer?

Oh. When I read it I thought he meant that he couldn't try that program because he couldn't get the files on to his HD. Then I thought the error message was what he got when trying to copy the files to his HD.....

  26. Here's a couple more applications you can try to transfer the files to your hard drive...

    DVDFabDecrypter
DVD Rebuilder (in No Compression mode)

I just used these two to make a backup of a DVD that all my other software read as having a file error on one of the VOB's, even though it played fine. I was able to rip the entire DVD to my hard drive with DVDFabDecrypter, then used DVD Rebuilder in the "no compression" mode to basically re-author a new DVD file set with no errors.

You might even be able to use DVD Rebuilder all by itself, reading the DVD files right off of the recorded disc in order to author and save new error-free DVD file set on your hard drive.

This may be a stupid suggestion, and you might have tried this already, but…. Since you said the DVD will play in your computer, have you tried playing the DVD with a DVD program on your computer (something like PowerDVD, or WinDVD), then pausing the player, then opening DVDDecrypter, or DVD Shrink, and tried ripping the DVD? I know this will sometimes work if the ripping program can’t unlock the disc, but maybe it would work for this error….

I tried that and it didn't work with a disc with similar problems to the poster's...read in DVD players but can't be ripped. I have since been able to rip the files with MagicISO but those can't be burned without errors. Going to try fixVTs next...

If ISOBUSTER ripped the files off the DVD, how did you verify the audio sync issue?

Have you tried to add the resultant VOB into TDA and try to re-author from there? What were the results?

Post back and let us know.

    Cheers!
