  1. I was in Walmart last night and they are selling 19 inch LCD monitors by Starlogic for $249.00 (Canadian dollars)...

Anyone know anything about these monitors....

Here's a link to the monitor in question sold at Officemax....

Crappy response time (25ms). Wouldn't touch it unless you're doing strickly desktop applications. Any movement (video, games...) on this will have noticable ghosting.

Keep shopping. For $225US you should be able to do better. Don't look for anything worse than 1280x1024, 1000:1 contrast and 12ms response time, 170v/170h viewing angle.
    Have a good one,

Starlogic is a repackager of other peoples product. Check for who really made these. An easy check get the FCC Part B registration number and find out who it is issued to on the FCC website. Repackagers rarely spend the bucks for their own tests and registration.

Officemax has sold Starlogic labeled procomm dvds and had to drop the price to $10 per hundred.

The response time may not be great OTOH if your game playing is limited to Solitaire, You don't watch movies on the computer beyond checking sync before authoring or burning and you are money short it could be quite adequate to use. I'm tempted to go see if the Walmart here has one to replace my Mother's 14" CRT. I'm sure it would be better than what she has. Even if I were to set the resolution to 1024 by 768 or 800 by 600 to make the images larger. She's been using that fuzzy 14" so long it would have to be better.

A much better choice for our northern neighbors.

This is a quality made monitor. You will know that once you see and feel it. It's a digital flat supporting both VGA and DVI. It has a 8ms response time and a 600:1 CR. Surprisingly enough the integrated speakers in this model don't sound too bad either.

$24CAD shipping ain't bad for a 19" flat screen weighing 13 pounds plus packaging.

I bought a 17" Starlogic monitor (Im on it now) and I dont know what the responce time is but I have to say, I watch movies on it all the time and the picture looks great. Bought it a year ago. I will try and find out what my responce time is in the manual because I really dont have a clue right off hand.

  11. Question:
** how does one determine their monitors .ms rate ??
( and can I do that right now ? )

(I still use my NEC MultiSync LCD 1555v, and I have abolutely zero
    problems with video)

    Thanks,

is this good? IM assuming 16 ms isnt too bad for what I do, but I may be wrong.

  13. Ok. I found out my ms rating.. 35ms -- wow!!

Epinions review of NEC LCD1555V 15" LCD Monitor

But, all I can tell you is this. Watching video is superb. There is no
hint, no such thing as ghosting, as another poster mentioned here. None.

So, All I can say is, if you find a 25ms at a good price -- go for it.
It can only do better than my measily slow 35ms rated model.

(either 25ms claim is bs, or I don't know what I'm talking about with
respect to my NEC LCD1555v, who is 35ms rating)
