Where do I get the codec to play Apple .DV files in Media Player Classic? Even QT player won't play it, though VLC (which has its own codecs) does.

    Thanks,

    -Mike

GSpot doesn't support Apple DV files. By the way, it DOES play in QT.

Don't think MPC's internal mov/mp4 splitter supports DV. If it plays in QT then if you set mov to quicktime instead of dshow in MPC then it should play since it is using qt for decoding. Otherwise maybe another qt parser does support DV.

That's not an option, unless I am misunderstanding. How would I set this option in MPC?

In formats you change Quicktime from directshow to quicktime. Then MPC uses QT for playback.

I see the problem - is WAS set to Quicktime but did not include the .DV extension. So now on to the NEW problem. It plays poorly! Much more pixelated than an MPG of the same material. Quicktime player also plays it poorly. VLC does not have this problem.

celtic_druid: I noticed ffdshow also has a decoder setting for DV video... how extensive/complete is that, or would it help in this case?

ffdshow's DV decoding works fine. Like I said though MPC's mov/mp4 splitter doesn't work for DV. If you can find a dshow mov splitter that can handle DV, then you could use ffdshow.

When set to quicktime, MPC uses quciktime for decoding, so quality should be identical. Just that you can get fullscreen without paying $$$'s.
