    it claims its a high definition player for only 70 pounds, is this right

    I don't think so.

    Compatible Media: DVD, CD audio, CD-R, CD-RW, Vidéo CD, SVCD, JPEG, MP3, WMA, DivX

    There is no BD neither HD DVD.
    I think High Definition in that case means Up Scalling (a beautiful name for resize to a higher resolution) to 720p and 1080i.
