Sometime ago I posted a topic on how to multiplex soft subtitles into the video container AVI (for Xvid ou Divx). Here it is:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=264798&highlight=soft+muxed+subtitles

We agreed that AVIMuxGui could do the job but not for more than 1 stream of subs (in fact it muxes the subs but PC players can find just one Stream. Files muxed this way with AVIMuxGui play with both WMP [here the screen gets weird though] and Media Player Classic. I was just wondering if I can mux more than 1 stream of those SRT subs with VirtualDub Mod or VirtualDub (one person is asking me here how to do it). Thanks in advance.

You can't do it with VDub and VDubMod only outputs subs for ogm and mkv. Multiple subs via AVIMuxGUI work fine here. MPC and DVOBSub.

Thanks so much for the input, CelticDruid! In fact AVIMuxGUI might work fine with Divx/Xvid compatible DVD players (since I don't have one, pls tell me.. if it really works fine with players), but the Media Player Classic cannot find the second subs stream. Same with Windows Media Player, even though I haven't installed Morgan Stream Switcher here (don't know why VideoHelp doesn't have a link for this filter/tool anymore). What do you think of these tools:
    avisub:

    srt2bmp:
    http://projects.gdion.biz/guides/dmfwithxsub.html

    DivxMuxGui

    Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of a standalone that supports AVIMuxGUI'ed subs. For standalones you are better off leaving the subs external.

As I said MPC works fine here. What version are you using?

Well they all generate divx files with xsubs. Should work fine with any divx certified player, plus since they are bitmap based, you can get the exact font you want. No need to rely on whatever font is embeded in the players firmware. Being bitmap based though, they will be a fair bit larger. Now with multiple subs, that could add up to a bit. No idea if DXN use any kind of compression either. For instance vobsub's when muxed to mkv are about 50% original size.

-Thanks. As I've said, this is the best way to make subs.
