How much have you spent on your current video recording setup?

No capture cards, vcrs or desktop recorders here....i have some old capture cards but I don't use them.

None. Actually I only have a VCR bought long time ago, cant remember what I paid for it. Dont really use it anymore.

Computers, printers, VCRs, DVD recorders, capture cards, hard drives, proc amps, detailers, TBCs, external monitors, discs, software, etc ... all of which is for video work... probably around $10,000 USD or more ... of course none of that was overnight, bought slowly over a period of many years. Software and broadcast/pro/prosumer video hardware can eat up $300-500 at a time.

I said maybe 250. But thats old money. I have a couple of old nonsvhs stereo vcr's for quick tv recording. I used to have a hauppauge wintv pvr 250 that was about a $150 new 4 or 5 years ago. But I sold that on ebay and bought a fusion 3 hdtv capture card for $100 and love it I also have an old Sony 8mm analog camcorder (the 90's 8mm not the old reel stuff ). But its interesting it has 16:9 wide recording mode but its analog. Different.

Spare VCRs = RCA S-VHS, Toshiba Beta VCR, RCA S-VHS Fullsize Camcorder, 8MM Camcorder

And lets not forget the other bits and pieces such as cables, Blank media, DVD cases & ink/paper for the nice looking cover, alternative would be chopping up the VHS case to fit the case however that won't look good in most cases. Scanner to scan VHS box and create nice DVD cover.

Software for use in the computer = $$$

I feel like I'm missing something else, hmmm....

I assume that this pertains to capturing. In that case I have used my Panasonic camcorder to capture one 4 minute video from vhs. Considering that 99.1% of all the tape that has been through this machine was recorded through the lens, I don't think the capture counts for much. Thus, less than $50.

Still using old VCR technology, have 3 VCR's, but there days must be numbered. Just took the first step towards moving to digital, getting a Twinhan HDTV tuner card. Will try burning the F1 car race today direct to DVD (SDTV), using the software that came with the tuner card.

Only a matter of time before the VCR base ends up been replaced with some sort of digital replacement.

I have two.

My laptop was ~$2200. I didn't buy it for video but since it has a firewire port, I use it to record non-flagged channels off the DVR.

My new computer was around $400.

I already had these but the are now on the new computer.

TV card - $30
Sound card - $200
DVD Recorder - $280 (Back in 2003 or 2002, don't remember)

I use this one for the flagged channels recording through composite and for recording old and new VHS (some History Channel shows are only avalable in VHS) tapes.

I said "more than $2500" because the computer ($2300) I am using was specifically bought with video in mind. That also includes my camcorder ($1000 back in 1999), 2 additional hard drives ($150 for both), $150 for software, maybe another $75 for misc cables and adapters.

My current recording setup is hard to calculate. You'd have to take into account different pieces of hardware getting replaced or relegated to other duties in the recording process. You'd also have to figure in the monthly fees I pay my cable company. Another consideration is RW Media being used over and over again. If I had to estimate I'd have to say it's around $1000 for my current setup but I can't really tell as I'm looking to be replacing a standalone recorder shortly with a larger hard drive and I'm also going to be replacing the motherboard in my HTPC this week.
