So what is the Best and or fastest program for converting DVD's to avi/divx/xvid/etc.? I am using Fairuse right now but it is slow so I was wondering if there was one that is faster.
    Thanks

Do a forum search - this is asked regularly, and has been asked recently.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Why not just try a simple program like VirtualDub Mod and the Xivid/Divx codec? That would likely be the fastest as really all you have running is the codec. But the all-in-ones usually do more than just encode to AVI formats. There's framerate changes, audio conversions, change of resolution and a few more. These all take time.

A little more advanced program than Fairuse is AutoGK, probably a little faster. Also a little more to learn. And Divx makes some conversion programs under their name.

Encoding speed is directly related to CPU speed. Using a faster CPU is where you will likely see the biggest speed improvement. Or you can reduce quality/bitrate and speed things up.

Myself, I would rather have more quality than speed.

AVISynth + VirtualDub (in fast recompress mode) + Xvid or Divx in single pass constant quality mode.

Nero Recode is fast too. But you'll end up with an MP4 file.
