  1. Hi, I have my IPTV connected to my theater pro 550 with S-video connection, and obviously the MMC software can't capture in widescreen mode, so the output MPEG2 file is always 4:3, so I would like to know if there is any possible way that I can capture widescreen and produce native 16:9 mpeg2 files, or 4:3 mpeg2 with black bars on top or bottom.

Can anyone help me, thank you. Also I dont have expensive softwares like Premier pro or Vegas.

DVD are not in a native 16:9 there 4:3 so you alway have black bars on top or bottom the main diff is when your in 16:9 mode it automatic mask and resize it to fit that mode.

Tell your IPTV you have a 16:9 TV. It should then send the 16:9 picture out the s-video port as an anamorphic image (ie a 16:9 picture squeezed into a 4:3 frame). Capture that with a 720x480 frame size. Burn that to DVD as a 16:9 MPEG file. When you play it back on a standard TV you should get the usual letterboxing. On a wide screen TV it will fill the screen.

  4. Can I capture it with 352x480 frame size? Anyways, when I captuer using MMC, it looks like correct AR in the preview screen, but the captured mpeg still is 4:3 somewhat squeezed image that makes everything look thinner and taller.
I use TDA to author DVDs, can I manually tell TDA that my mpegs are indeed 16:9 AR?

Yes but it will be a little blurrier when it's stretched to 16:9.

If not you can use DVDPatcher to patch the MPEG to 16:9.

  6. Thanks for the help.
I have a huge problem. The Mpeg files recorded in MMC have problems with TDA, the problem is that they dont have a sequence header, or the header is wrong, but the same file has no problem with DMF3, it's so strange.
I have just tested, none of the files produced by the DVD preset in MMC would get accepted in TDA, except for one. (MPEG2(HW)), it produces mpeg stream at 12mbit/s, but that is the only one will get accepted in TDA with minor error that can be ignored. I would be really glad if anyone can help me.

OK, I'm clueless. What is an IPTV?
    Is this it? http://www.vsicam.com/products/avn/avn210/avn210.html

The ATI 550 clone that I have only caps 720x480/576. If you are getting a full vertical, horizonatally squeezed picture, then Voila!!! you have your 16x9.

PS: Here is a links list for IPTV http://www.iptvdirectory.com/

  8. yeah, that's basically it.
So now i figured out how to change AR to 16:9 by using dvdpatcher, but I still have problem with the mpeg2 hardware capture file not compatible with TDA. I'm so pissed

Does TDA have "MPEG tools" like TMPGEnc Plus? You could try demuxing the file and then remuxing it. If TDA doesn't have the tools you could download TMPGEnc Plus.

"the mpeg2 hardware capture file not compatible with TDA."

So use software compression? Don't have hardware mpg2, so never tried custom settings to see if they work with HW, but they do with SW.

That said, the MMC v. 9.13 is a bit *off*, so it's entirely possible the mpg2 files can't be made TDA likable.

And if it helps, search the ATI registry sections for your custom templates -- should be able to set one for your AS saving you a step.

Just to be sure: Most IPTV systems are in PAL regions. So maybe you're capturing a PAL signal not NTSC? If so, the resolution should be 720x576 or 352x576.

  12. how do I check the native incoming source, I'm pretty sure it uses the NTSC system though.

What country are you in? USA, Canada, Japan are NTSC. France is SECAM. Much of the rest of the world is PAL.

Also be sure the frame rate is correct for your system: 29.97 for NTSC, 25.00 for PAL.

  14. it's NTSC i'm sure. Does anyone else have problem with Theater 550 and TDA?
