I'm a senior citizen trying to get a grip on this; forgive me if my question seems very basic:

What's the difference, if any, between using SlySoft AnyDVD and SlySoft
CloneDVD? Does one typically achieve a better outcome with one over the other?
Also, how does one actually start AnyDVD? It doesn't start automatically for me as I thought it's supposed to (I'm using a Thinkpad A31p); and I can't find any start button after opening the program.

Last: Should one run a program like DVD43 simultaneously with either of these programs or is it unnecessary?

I wouldn't run DVD43 at the same time as AnyDVD, but I wouldn't run either if your aim is just to backup a DVD you own.

If you run the freeware DVDFab Decrypter and the DVDShrink program, you can back up 99%+ of the DVDs out there. And at no software cost.

Programs like AnyDVD and DVD43 are made to run in the background and decrypt whatever you put in your DVD drive. If your aim is only to view DVDs that are other regions, then these are good programs. If you are backing up DVDs, the programs I mentioned are a better value.

CloneDVD and AnyDVD are usually used together because CloneD does not rip copy protected material. AnyD runs in the background decrypting to make it possible.
CloneD will write to disc. AnyD will not.
For quality, ease of use, and cost see the post from redwudz concerning Fab Decrypter and Shrink.
AnyD has added a ripper but it needs work.

Just used DVDShrink the other day, works great. While it did spent a couple hours on a deep analysis, it finally wrote the DVD with no mods (except removal of all copy protection, including regions) and the copy looks IDENTICAL to the original DVD, at least on my crappy TV.
