  1. Hi!

I have recently installed a fresh copy of windows xp x64. I have also installed Zoom Player, VLC, Winamp, WinDVD7 and ffdshow 060203. Everything was working fine for a couple of days and then all of a sudden, video stops working but sound is still ok. I have only played DVDs and Xvid files. I was using WinDVD7 for DVD and Zoomplayer for Xvid. The strangest thing however is that I do get picture if I use windows media player 10. None of the other mentioned players works. I have no idea what I have done or how to correct it. I have tried everything I can think of, anyone have any ideas on what to try to get this to work again?

    Thanks!

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the apps that aren't working. Sounds like you have a corrupt codec or registry entry.

  3. Tried that, I have reinstalled windows media player, windvd7, ffdshow and my ati video driver... doesnt help...

I have found another really strange thing. If I have windows media player 10 in the background running a dvd movie, all the other programs start to work. I can then shut down media player and everything is working fine, but If close lets say windvd7 and restart it, it doesnt work again. Somehow I feel it has something to do with windows media player. I did try to uninstall it once...

I would uninstall all of the apps. Test wmp to see that it is still working correctly. If it is, then reinstall the other apps one at a time, testing each one after it is installed, until you find out which one is causing the conflict.

I would also uninstall any codec packs, if any, you have installed.

You can also use a program such as codec sniper to find bad or unused codecs.

  5. I did all that, nothing helped, it remains a mystery. I have reinstalled the system now. I suspect the problems began when I tried to uninstall media player. So dont try on a x64 system.... I did it out of routine from the x86 systems...

  6. Well, reinstalling didnt help. If I restart my system it shows a dvd movie just fine, but if I close the app and restart Windvd7 it doesnt work... But after a new restart of the computer it works again... Pretty strange dont you think??

Does your video card driver support overlay? Could be a Direct X problem with your video driver. Shut off Video acceleration and see if you see video then.

  8. I have tried shutting down video acceleration, then windvd coudnt start at all giving me an error message about overlay.

Anyway, I tried changing my video driver to generic vga and then it works fine, so it's a driver issue. I have an ATI FireGL v3100. I guess it's the x64 drivers that are bad, since the x86 drivers where working just fine. I have the latest drivers downloaded from ATI just a few days ago. I guess there's not much more to do then to hope for ATI to fix the problem.
