Newbie question - Xvid - Dvd converson question

Hey guys

I just downloaded the first season of a tv show encoded in xvid format. There are 24 episodes and the total size for all is 4.27GB. My question is this:

If I want to burn all 24 episodes of season 1 onto a dvd how would I go about doing this? I realize that of course there is going to be quality loss, but quality is not too big of a issue for me at this point in time. Please note that I am using using a standard 4.7GB ( hope ths size is correct) to burn the episodes onto.

Hopefully this is possible, but I am not too sure if it is so I'm hoping someone wouldn't mind giving me an answer as to if it it. Just to note each episode is around 20-23 minutes.

Video bitrate for each episode: 900
Audio Bitrate: 112

9 hours /dvd will look like crap but it is possible, convert to 352x240 mpeg2 ~900kbit/s and 192 kbits audio. use a bitrate calculator for exact size. convert with for example tmpgenc xpress.


or get a divx/xvid player.

I decided instead to split the 24 episodes over 2 dvds. 12 episodes on 1 dvd and the other 12 on another.

The first 12 episodes total 2.05GB. Now I'm using TMPG PLUS 2.5 to conver the xvid file to a dvd file. So, for example: The first episode has a video bitrate of 900 and an audio bitrate of: 112. When I load TMPG i am using the Wizard and select NTSC low resolution, when I get to the bitrate settings these are the options displayed:

Video resolution: 320 by 240
average video bitrate: 6949
audio bitrate: 384
Estimated File Size: 4199.91MB
Percentage of disk capacity = 100%

This is where I get a bit confused. The video bitrate for the xvid file ( per episode) is 900. So with the above default settings for tmpg it is assuming that I just want that one episode on the DVD. Here is my question: The default bitrate is higher than the xvid bitrate. Obviously, a high-birate does not mean better quality its just using s higher bitrate so it could fit onto 1 dvd with no quality loss. So, is it possible using a bitrate calculator when I am converting the xvid file to dvd such that instead of finding the maximum bitrate with no quality loss that I can find the minimum bitrate when converting to dvd with minimal or no quality loss? Because, since i will be putting around 12 episodes per dvd, I'd like to know for each of the 12 episodes the highest bitrate I can use for each episode so that there is no left-over space on the dvd when I put the 12 episodes on there.
