Hi,
I’ve been given the task by my wife of archiving episodes of LOST from my Comcast PVR (Motorola Dual-Tuner DVR High-Definition Set-Top DCT6412) to DVD. After reading much “stuff” from the web and trying about a million programs, I’ve pretty much got a system down. I was wondering if you could set me straight on a couple of stumbling points I have.
The Goal: Archive lost episodes I have recorded both in HIDEF and standard to DVR. Either normal def or hidef but hidef is preferred.
Sub goal: Get the wife to stop bugging me about the PVR filling up.
Problem#1: I’m using CAPDVHS to create the transport stream. Using a ThinkPad p4 2GHZ with 512 RAM and onboard firewire to capture from my Motorola box. I am playing an episode that has been previously recorded and stored on my PVR and capturing it from the firewire port. It would seem that if I play a 63 minute show (HIDEF), it plays normal 63 minutes but I only record about 39 minutes of it even though I’m watching it and the CAPDVHS is running for the full 63 minutes. Is my PC too slow? I even set the timer to 90 minutes and still only get 39 minutes. Is this a Motorola thing? If I stream the low def version of the same episode, I get the full 63 minutes.
Problem #2: related to #1 if I start another capture to get the rest of the show, I don’t have much luck doing the copy/b thing to combine the .ts files so HDTV2DVD can author it.
Problem #3: If I choose to burn the standard def version, HDTV2DVD super encodes the .ts so that it looks really bad. Any plans on letting HDTV2DVD author standard def (checkbox)??? PLEASE
Problem #4: I’m running 1600x1200 resolutions on my notebook. The window is too big for my screen. It does not fit. I can’t seem to resize so I have to undock the asset window to get it on the screen. It disappears as soon as I lose focus. Often goes behind the main app (disappears) if when it’s not docked. The only way to correct is to stop and re-start the app. Makes it super difficult to drag .ts files from explorer and still be able to reach the go button.
Other than that, your program does exactly what I need it to do. Thanks for filling the need for something like this. Sorry for bugging you on a free program. Let me know where I can make a donation to keep the good stuff coming. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Frank H

Can you show me a log from HDTV2DVD on the ThinkPad? I have a theory about the 39/63 minute thing.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

ok. Sorry about that.
I'm slightly confused but is \\Orion-p3 on your laptop or is that an external drive?
What is the filesystem format of the drive you are capturing to? And is that the \\Orion-p3 share?SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

orion-p3 is a networked drive on a different machine. Its an xp machine with lots of space but sadly, no horsepower. My laptop is fine with hp but no space. Frank

FAT32 has a file limit of 4GB. i.e. a single file can be no more that 4GB.... So i suspect that when you are capturing HD you are going beyond that limit, hence the trucation.

ChrissyBoy, is your 6412 a phase II or phase III? I have a phase II but the firewire porst is disabled. Is there a way, that you know of that is, that I can enable it? I, too, have found that the internal HDD is just not enough space and fills up pretty quickly.
I have been reading around but I'm not getting much info on how to actually enable the port. I think the usb ports are turned off as well...Can I network the unit with the ethernet port with a crossover cable and edit the settings that way? ... just a thought...Boy do I love my avatar! -
tsantsa: I don't have one, so i have no idea. fhelm does so he may be able to help you... If you hear nothing from this thread maybe drop him a PM?
