I'm wondering if anybody here could help me with a problem that I'm having with fitting a number of AVI clips that I've downloaded onto a single DVD.

I have 21 AVI video clips that total around 4.3GB in size. I would like to put them all onto one DVD that is playable in a standard standalone DVD player. The problem I'm having is figuring out how to do the conversion from AVI to DVD and keep the original AVI file sizes. Quality of picture or sound isn't of any concern to me, as long as the clips are watchable on a regular TV.

I've been trying to use Nero so far to do this, without much success. It will either convert the files into a format that takes 1.1-1.4GB per clip (which would only allow me to fit 4 clips per DVD) or convert them to Nero Digital (MPEG-4) format, which I don't think is able to be burned to a regular video DVD.

Can anybody offer any guidance? Is there a particular software package or two out there that will do this?

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated, as I've been at this for a good week, perhaps two, and am still no further along than I was before.

    Thanks,
    Dave

the source file size does not matter at all when you are converting to dvd. only the total playing time is important.

You can't. Either get a Divx/Xvid capable player, or spread it over multiple discs. Simply put, Divx/Xvid (AVI) = Apples, mpeg (DVD) = Oranges.

Using the lowest quality DVD setting (which is equal to VCD) you can get about 7 hours on a disk. Try TMPGEnc to make your mpegs and TDA to author and burn. Lots of guides for these two programs.
