On the International JVC website nothing is mentioned about the Super MPEG Pre Processor for both models.

However the Post Processor is mentioned in the specs eg:

"Super MPEG Post-Processor: Block Noise Reduction Circuit, Color DigiPure and Hadamard Noise Reduction System"

The Super MPEG Encode Pre Processor however is not mentioned which I find strange. But on the UK and Swedish sites the Pre Encode Processor is mentioned:

Notice I made a comparison between the HDD modell of DR-M10 and DR-M100 because for some reason the DR-M10 could not be selected for comparison but the DR-M20 is identical except the HDD part and related functions.

What I find strange is the following:

The DR-M20 has a Time Base Corrector, Frame Syncronizer and Motion Active Noise Reduction but the DR-M100 lacks the TBC.

The really strange thing though is that according the the spec sheet comparison the DR-M100 do not have any Post Processor meaning no Block Noise Reduction Circuit , Colour DigiPure or Hadamard Nosie Reduction System but the DR-M20 does have those!.

That is confusing because on the International or american JVC site the DR-M100 do have a Post Processor. So what is correct??

Is the TBC important what does it do?

Why is the suggested retail Price on the international JVC site higher for the DR-M10 then for DR-M100?

Is the DR-M10 of higher quality??
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

    lordsmurf or anyone??

Is the TBC of the DR-M10 important since it seems to be lacking on the DR-M100??

And what do you think is most accurate or plausible the American site that claims that the DR-M100 do have a Post Processor or the UK and Swedish sites that says that only the DR-M10 have it??

    I am confused basically!!
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

Documentation for these machines are always wrong anyway. Just ignore it.

I still remember how certain pamphlets said the JVC had a TBC, which it does not. None of these machines has a TBC. In fact, most machines that say they have a TBC have a "TBC-like circuit" at best. Only the pro-line JVC has a TBC, that I'm aware of to date, as part of the SR-series VCR inside.

Just a screw-up in documentation. Not unheard of.

"Super MPEG Post-Processor: Block Noise Reduction Circuit, Color DigiPure and Hadamard Noise Reduction System" is all just a bunch of crap fancy names anyway. All this really means is the unit has an advanced DNR system. Last time they marketed it, this time they're not.

JVC is sort of like ATI. Great products, crap documentation.

    Thanks for your reply!

But what is a Time Base Corrector??

    What does it do??

Does the JVC have an LSI chip?

I have heard that one is the best one but do you know why it is the best??

The Samsung have what they call SmartRP processor is it just as good as the JVC one??
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

  5. The JVC does have the LSI chip, I think. And RGB in unlike the other models.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm also thinking of buying it but wanted to clarify, Lordsmurf, are you saying none of the JVCs have proper TBC so the 100S also will only have their half-arsed TBC and is in essence the same? I only ask cos on the specs list for their DVD HDD-DVD recorders they do specify tbc whereas for their DVD recorders they specifically do not... Anyone actually got one and can clarify? Or even can confirm the tbc is an irrelevance and it will clean up old tapes copied onto it whatever?

The reason I may buy the 100 is that I already have a sky plus pvr, and to get a HDD recorder seems like overkill. However I have noticed that with the direct-to-dvd (ie no hdd involvement) recordings done on friends' machines, the streams seem to lack a certain stability. I use video redo to edit them and the quickfix results in an mpeg with choppy audio. So my concern is that missing out on the HDD recorder there may be problems with ripping, re-editing and re-authoring via pc which I would definitely want to do. It may be that the JVC is a much more solid recorder especially if it really does have tbc.

So a second question - does anyone have experience of using the JVC to record from pvr or vhs and then re-edit the files on a pc and are there any issues!!!!?

Then again the 100 is an old model now and I also wonder if something else may be round the corner, although JVC won't admit it when I ring and ask!

I'm also interested what Samsung SmartRP does exactly. Downloaded manual shows only DNR-feature but that's it.

My main purpose is to convert old VHS to DVD and i'm balancing between two recorders:

    DMR-ES10 (better filters,TBC?)
    DVD-R121 (DV-in, Divx..)

So DIGA or SmartRP. Yes those terms are mostly marketing hype but is there better info for SmartRP. Also appreciate what's samsungs quality generally

DMR-ES10 does not have a TBC. The filters are for especial use only. General VHS improvements (grain reduction, chroma noise removal) are basically non-existant. Pass on this model for VHS work. The only valuable filter it has is for tearing, which many people never experience anyway.

    Samsung, on your own.

  8. Stay away from Samsung. My sister has one, she sent me a few movies recorded on it, on my JVC player they freeze at every new chapter and don't get past there till I hit search twice or chapeter skip, on my Panasonic recorder they pause for a couple of seconds then jump forward at every new chapter. They are TY discs, so it's not the discs. They do at least play on my Toshiba recorder.

thanks for the answers. I think i'll go for the samsung (better looks and other features) and I don't need the chapter creator cause I edit the material with my pc anyway...

btw. wonfer there's still no recorder equipped with dvb-t (in uk found 1 model) although many tv-manufacturers have integrted such in their receivers. Is there some agreement to sell more separated dvb-boxes
    Time to buy 10in1 remote
