Bad decision buying Taiyo Yuden +R media?

Hi, I recently ordered a 25 pc DVD+R 8x Taiyo Yuden cake box from blankmedia.ca thinking it would be a huge upgrade from the current Memorex 8x +R's (CMC MAG) my dad had bought.

However I am less than impressed with my first burn (at 8x) and I hope the rest of these blanks give me better results than this.

Here are some of my specs:

Lite-On DVD±RW SOHW-812S (US0Q)
Nero 6.6.0.1
Nero CD-DVD Speed 3.40
System ASPI not installed
Nero ASPI v 2.0.1.68

Here are the results of two Disc Quality Tests I performed on it:

1. Would it help if I burned at a lower speed than the max rated speed of 8x?
2. Why doesn't my drive show the Average/Maximum Jitter or PO Failures?
3. Would using K-probe be a better gauge of the quality of my burns (since I'm using a Lite-On drive)?

If anyone can help a somewhat newbie to this game out, I would greatly appreciate it.

If I remember correctly, I think liteons are crappy at burning dvd+r, They burn DVD-R superbly.

You sure this is TY? Is it Made In Japan? Is blankmedia.ca a reliable place to buy media? Never heard of it, but I know a lot of fake media is out there. Try burning at 4x. I always burn my discs a little slower than what is rated. I'm in no hurry, and want good burns.

One thing to check is the firmware revision in your burner. If the drive's firmware doesn't recognize the media code of the media that you are burning, it burns the disc with a default write strategy. This default write strategy may or may not be optimal for the media being burned. It could be good media, but if you aren't buring it right, it might not seem to be. An endless problem for burner manufacturers is dealing with media that is released after the drive is made. In an effort to keep their drives up to date, they release firmware upgrades that incorporate support for newer media. But this depends on users actually doing the downloads.

Some drive makers are more diligent than others about continuing to upgrade the firmware on their older drive models. It's obvious that some don't even care to bother. DVD recorders are another problem. In most cases, firmware upgrade is not doable. One way to cope with this is to stick with what works. If a particular type of media works well in your recorder, stick with it.

1.Update firmware(USOS is latest) HERE.
2.Use KProbe to check media on Lite-On drives,set scan speed to 8x and turn off "realtime chart".
3.Lower the burn speed.
4. Nero CD-DVD Speed has been updated and the newer version may be more accurate.
5.Use RecordNow,Prassi Ones or DVDDecrypter to burn(higher quality).
Also remember:Those scans are still respectable but don't expect much from the 8xx series writers.

The (relatively) high PIE errors in the 4x part of the Z-CLV writing strategy is a known issue with the 812S/832S. You could try some of the modified firmwares found in the CDFreaks Lite-On forum.
