  1. For quite some time now been backing up me DVDs using the CloneDVD/Any DVD combination. Worked flawlessly onmost video media and copies were playable on all my non-pc dvd players. Now this is history, whatever copies I mak can onlybe played on pc dvd-drives, the only stand-alone dvd player that still reads them is my Kiss 500. Any clues?

Have you changed media (brand) ?
If not, get one of you old disks and get the media code (DVD Info Pro of similar can show you this), and compare it to the media code of the new disks that don't work. Sometimes vendors change manufacturers without changing brands, and use lower quality disks.

If this is universal (i.e. affecting players other than yours) then media is the likely culprit. If it only affects your players, perhaps they need a clean or are just getting old.

  3. Do you put labels on your DVD's? If so do search on that topic.

DVD players have a limited lifespan, lasers die rather early, sometimes as fast as 6-12 months. The first things that quit reading are burned discs.

If the KISS and computer can player them, then that eliminates the discs, most likely.

Labels could be a problem, as well as low quality media that are harder to read.

What brand/ID of media are you using?

Have you changed any of the settings on your progs lately?
Are you burning discs as dcd video or dvd data discs?

I know that KISS DVD players are some of the only players that will play DivX avi files. Where the movies that you burned to DVD in DivX format? That would explain why you can't play them in any other DVD player...

Anyway, sounds like its your recorder trying to fritz on ya.
