  1. i bought a pack of TDK ehg tapes from walgreens today and to my surpise the picture quality was a little better compared to the JVC ehg tapes i am use to using..

i noticed the colors looked cleaner and more colorful compared to the jvc and it looked exactly like jvc's super vhs tape!!

i knew TDK's standard lineup was good but i didnt expect these kind of results with their lowend vhs tape..

i heard that their EHG lineup use to be called vivid and that ehg is 2 steps below their SVHS tape??

if this is the case i imagine their svhs tape makes damn good recordings!!

i am seriously thinking about making TDK my main choice for svhs recordings..

anyone else joined the tdk bandwagon??

Wow, tapes, what are those? (Just kidding.) I'm surprised there are people out there still using tapes instead of DVD. I tried TDK's Vivid & DSP tapes maybe about 3 years ago and didn't think much of them. The shells were "riveted" together and cheaply made (no rollers or metal pins). I thought the colors looked a bit washed out. I preferred Fuji Pro (actually a high-grade tape) and JVC EHG-HiFi in clear colored shells (using JVC machine). I don't use tape any more, so I don't know if anything's changed since then.

E-HG has always been E-HG but VIVID I think was once HS and DSP was once Hi-Fi

I liked the TDK Hi-Fi tape back in the day (and the first Sony "V" tapes) but towards the end I found that FUJI HQ and FUJI PRO seemed the best to me.

I have always thought of JVC brand VHS tape as a joke.

Yes! I've been saying this so much that I've turned ... um.... blue in the face!

TDK EHG/VIVID tapes, and JVC EHG/EX tapes, are excellent for S-VHS-ET recording. They do well at holding color, supressing grain (holding high res), and fend off tape dropout.

Most other VHS tapes have grain or dropout problems when used as an S-VHS-ET tape. These are the only two real contenders.

Some of the BASF pro/broadcast tapes work well too, but they're much harder to find, and quite a bit more expensive.

TDK EHG/VIVID tapes have been my choice in tape, for S-VHS-ET use, for about 6-7 years now.
