This reminds me of that Elton John tune:

I'm sure it is not the best thing for your laptop. Subjecting computer equipment to heat can't be good. Especially if you were to expose to a heat source and cool it down too soon. I think you may end up with condensation issues then.
Considering the interior temp of a car can reach 130F or higher; Not a good idea. The direct sun isn't as big a problem as the heat buildup in a closed vehicle.
At least in my neighborhood, if I left my laptop in the car in plain sight, somebody would just break in and steal it and solve any overheating problems.
You have to figure most electronic devices are happy in about the same temperature range as you are. Freezing and very hot conditions can damage the LCD screen and the batteries.
