    Hi,
I've several old family vhs tapes to capture, convert, etc.but have discovered that some of them have become attacked by mold.
Might anyone have a solution other than my diving off a tall building?
    Much thanks,
    Charlie

Send them to a service that specializes in cleaning and transferring VHS tapes.

    Look at this place:
    http://www.videointerchange.com/price_list.htm
The owners of that site are knowledgeable and friendly.

They have special restoration services for dealing with not only signal issues, but physical damage to the source media.

When a tape has mold its Shot. Don't do it because I don't know if it works or not. But I heard about 20 years ago when VHS was still strong that people use to, Clean tapes with Vingar & it was supposedly great. I don't know if its true or not but I heard that how they clean 8mm & Super 8, 16mm from mold. Your guess is good as mine.

That's not always the case. I had several tapes that had mold visible in the display window but the tapes played fine after I fast forwarded and rewound the whole thing. I did, however, have to do a thorough cleaning of my VCR afterward.
