This is just a suggestion to the administrators of the VideoHelp Forum:

Now that digital HD camcorders are becoming available to the great public (Sony HDR-FX1E or Sony HDR-HC1E, for instance), why not to create a new section in this Forum dedicated exclusively to HDV (High Definition Video)?

    Thanks,

    Mário

That might be TOO specific. Isn't there a DV forum already? I would think that would be a logical place to discuss that. Sometimes forum overkill can be too much to handle.

DV is not the same as HDV. HDV is a totally different beast, considering the compression issues and its editing options.

HDV is essentially DV at a higher resolution.

    Not true.
Might want to spend some time reading this:

About the only things in common between DV and HDV are the video datarate (25 Mb/s), the DV transfer data formatting (so HDV looks like DV for IEEE-1394 transfer) and the physical tape spec.

Otherwise they are different in most respects.

  7. HDV for the time being can be discussed at the DV forum. Since HDV is based on global DV specs and is but one of the emergent HD formats, it could be wasteful to separate the two at this stage.
