I am starting a website that will be streaming a lot of videos for clients. Most will be in windows media format. My question is what controls does windows media player (embedded in IE) allow for me to control the videos? Such as controling the dimensions, the size, quality, etc? Is there anyway to take, say a 10mb video file and have windows media player automatically stream it at 2mb to save bandwidth? My concern is clients may have 10 second videos that are 10mb when they could be 2mb and similar quality. My main concern is to save bandwidth where possible. So I am wondering if there is any way to automatically have windows media player stream in lower quality to save bandwidth. Please let me know what bandwidth conserving controls WMP offers. And also what similar options quicktime & real offer.
Thanks
Tom

I'm fairly sure that WMP won't offer you any bandwidth savings of this nature, and that it is up to you to create low-bandwidth versions of your files. You can definitely control the size of the player window in your page scripting.
If in doubt, Google it.
As jimmalenko stated, you will have to convert the files into the specs that you decide are appropriate. Your server will just stream the files as they are stored, WMP has no control over the files.

Wierd, I got completely opposite answers from another forum. I was told you can specify the bitrate in WMP scripting. Not true?
