    Do:

    Code:
    C:\Program Files\BadgerIT\HDTV2DVD>ffmpeg.exe -i "path to the file to analyse"
    and post your output please.

  2. Well, after about an hour trying to figure out dos commands, I ended up with an I/O error "usually that means that input file is truncated and/or corrupted"

    Is there such a thing as a windows. or gui program to get the details on a video file?

    Ok. Try this build. It will show the details of the file if it is not compatable.

  4. Thanks, that is a little easier....No joy yet though. I renamed the mpeg to .ts, and got this:

    Version: HDTV2DVD 0.41
    Build: 0.41.2250.24600

    Unknown file type. Expected a mpeg-2 transport stream with a file extension of .ts or .tp

    Details: file=F:\avermediafiles\test.ts
    FormatName=mpeg
    Num_Frames=1755
    DurationInSecs=58
    Duration=00:00:58.5
    VideoCodec=mpeg2video
    Width=1920
    Height=1080
    Standard=NTSC
    BitRate=11132
    AudioStreamCount=0
    Audio1SampleRate=-1
    Audio1Codec=NULL
    Audio1BitRate=-1
    Audio2SampleRate=-1
    Audio2Codec=NULL
    Audio2BitRate=-1

    I renamed it to .tp and got this, same thing I guess:

    Details: file=F:\avermediafiles\test.tp
    FormatName=mpeg
    Num_Frames=1755
    DurationInSecs=58
    Duration=00:00:58.5
    VideoCodec=mpeg2video
    Width=1920
    Height=1080
    Standard=NTSC
    BitRate=11132
    AudioStreamCount=0
    Audio1SampleRate=-1
    Audio1Codec=NULL
    Audio1BitRate=-1
    Audio2SampleRate=-1
    Audio2Codec=NULL
    Audio2BitRate=-1

    The audio seems to be the problem I'm guessing. The files created by this card play just fine with Media Player 10 though...I'm wondering why I bought an HDTV card that I can't use to burn to dvd, or why they would make one.

    Well it looks like it is a program stream not a transport stream (thats why it won't load up).... But that aside i wonder what the audio is. can you email me a sample cap? Also, do you have any pointers to the audio type from the support website for that card?

  6. I emailed you a 7mb sample. Let me know if it didn't work out. Is there a difference in the ota broadcasts? The card is only an HD tuner, but is it possible that some digital broadcasts are HD and some are not, and the mpeg file produced would vary with that?

    Ok, finally had a chance to do this..

    C:\Program Files\BadgerIT\HDTV2DVD>ffmpeg.exe -i e:\ctob.ts
    ffmpeg version CVS, build 3276800, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard
    configuration: --enable-a52 --enable-gpl --enable-memalign-hack --disable-deb
    ug --enable-vhook
    built on Sep 23 2005 15:20:26, gcc: 3.2.3 (mingw special 20030504-1)
    Input #0, mpegts, from 'e:\ctob.ts':
    Duration: N/A, start: 9.510922, bitrate: N/A
    Stream #0.0[0x201], 29.97 fps: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 720x480, 7500 kb/s
    Must supply at least one output file
    By the way, thank you very much for the help.. The only odd thing I notice is the "N/A" under duration & bitrate. Everything else looks pretty close to what you posted as a go by..

    thinger62: The sample is a program stream so it won't work with the program. Is there any settings on the capture card/software to save as a transport stream. Also any further details about the audio?

    EndBoards: can you try this build too: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1472459#1472459 to see if that makes any difference?

I can't believe a tuner card would actually create captures that are impossible to put on dvd. Or is the Avermedia a180 'special?'
    If you want to see what's in a transport stream, you should be able to use tsreader lite. But I'm guessing maybe you're not capturing digital. Are you sure you are on a digital station? You shouldn't get an mpg except if you are doing an analog to digital capture.

  10. Well, the a180 is an HDTV card. It only tunes in my digital stations. I did a capture of two broadcasts, one SD and one HD, and can see the difference in file sizes. Both are mpg though, and there is no adjustment possible with this card:

    Complete name : F:\avermediafiles\mpython.mpg
    File size : 3.33 GiB
    Format : MPEG-2 multiplexer
    Overal BitRate : 3671 Kbps
    PlayTime : 2h 9mn

    Video #0
    Codec : MPEG-2 Video
    Bit rate : 3621 Kbps
    Bit rate mode : VBR
    Width : 720
    Height : 480
    Aspect ratio : 4/3
    Frame rate : 29.97 fps
    (Pixel*Frame) : 0.350
    Delay : 925

    and the other HD cap:

    Complete name : F:\avermediafiles\20061901190331.mpg
    File size : 32.0 MiB
    Format : MPEG-2 multiplexer
    Overal BitRate : 12334 Kbps
    PlayTime : 21s 750ms

    Video #0
    Codec : MPEG-2 Video
    Bit rate : 12284 Kbps
    Bit rate mode : VBR
    Width : 1280
    Height : 720
    Aspect ratio : 16/9
    Frame rate : 59.94 fps
    (Pixel*Frame) : 0.222
    Delay : 816

    I sure wish I knew how to get this on dvd...I suspect it ain't gonna happen though. This is what the manufacturer's tech support has told me:

    Unfortunately, the audio codec that is used by the program can only be recognized by the AVerTV software and Media Player Classic. There is no way of changing the audio codec.

    I have an email in requesting more information.

    Thanks for such a great tool, I've been using it for a while now with great results. I ran into one oddity today. I have a large TS file (13.7GB) that is 1280x1088. For some reason HDTV2DVD converts this to 352x480 so the resulting DVD only fills the middle third of the display. Is there anyway to force it to output 720x480?

    I suspect the duration is such that the bitrate would be less that 3000kbs. When this is the case it is recommended that you create a half-d1 resolution - which is what HDTV2DVD does...

    What is the duration? What was the encoded bitrate that HDTV2DVD chose?

    3 hours 14 mins
    If I open the S2D.mpg created by HDTV2DVD in VideoRedo, it reports a bitrate of 7.800 Mbps
    This might be a case where I should splurge on some DL DVDs

    As i suspected. 03:14:35 works out as 2720kbs in order to fit onto DVD5.

    To solve it have a look at https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1439017#1439017 but bare in mind that you are talking about HDTV2DVD and so the settings will be for "HDTV2DVD"

    Or you could opt for the Dual Layer setting and then shrink the output with DVD shrink.

    Bottom line is: putting 3 hours+ of anything (HDTV, avi, mpeg... etc) onto DVD will result in a low bitrate. In such cases it is recommended to use Half-d1 res. This is what SVCD2DVD & HDTV2DVD does BUT you can override this decision.

    I'm trying to use this program but I had no luck at all.
    One of the tw othings occur:

    1. I Drag the file and nothing happens, no file is shown in the Assets
    or
    2. I receive a message fro mwindows saying: "ffmpeg.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

    Any ideas on how to fix this ?

    I've tried reenconding the file with VideoReDo, and didn't work.
    I used Mpeg2Repair, one of the files I used couldn't be correct, the other could but even so, it won't work at HDTV2DVD.

    I tried HDTV2MPEG2 and also, I had no luck.

    Anyrhing else I could try ?

    PS: I'm already giving a 5mb sample of the file: http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=38SDQIRNF1WG31IOSK6LMQEAVZ
