I have copied some DVD Files to my computer. When I go to the file in which they are save they are in the format of Nero Showtime. I want all my files in the Format of NeroMediaPlayer. I know I can go into each of my Showtime files and go to properties and change it there but I would prefer not to have to do that. (I use DVD Shrink 2.3)

Is this something that I have to sort out via my main computer settings and if so how do I do this? I want all my music and DVD files to be automatically saved in NeroMediaPlayer.

You don't want to actually change the files, you just need to change the file association. Go into one of the Video_TS folders and find a file ending in .ifo. Right-click and select "Open With". If a sub-menu opens up, click on "Choose Program". From the list of programs, find Nero Showtime/MediaPlayer. Make sure you also tick "Always use this program" box at the bottom of the dialogue. Click OK and you should see the icons change for that file type. Do this for any other file types you want to change.

Hi i did as you said. I changed the file type. But then when i go to open it i get the enclosed pop-up.

Any more tips that you think may help?

guns1inger, thanks for the link. But oh my god, i think thats harder than the Original question I asked . After 5 days of trying to sort this problem I quit. I just can’t cope with the stress no more . I’ve gone grey over the weekend. But thanks to everyone who has took the time out to reply.

I’m now going to look for a very large building to throw my computer off. Watch out below.

Well my friend, I hate to tell you but there is no easier way to change the file association. The good news is that you only have to do it ince and your PC will remember from then on. WHy in the world do you want a ripped DVD to play in NeroMediaPlayer when the best way is to play it where you presently have it set to. That's why it defaulted to that utility in the first place. I prefer Media player for audio.

Update.

I just changed my file associations to NeroMediaPlayer and back in one minute.
It's quite a simple process.

If you are find that hard, stay away from anything video related. File associations are at the very simple end.

I get this question all the time.

It is not a question of what type of file it is, or where it is saved.

It is simply a question of what tool Windows uses with it.

Example - you have a hex nut, you know to use a wrench and not pliers. Someone else, however, may think pliers or even a blowtorch are the correct tool if that is what they have been told. You must tell them the preferred method.

Windows looks at the 3 letter extension of the file, and when you click on the file, it uses whatever tool is associated with that file. Often the last similar program installed will change that association, sometimes without asking you.

You can simply change the association as you have been told, or you can circumvent the problem by opening your preferred player, and then instructing that player to open the file in question. This will not change Windows mind as to the preferred tool, you are not asking Windows to choose the correct tool for that file, you have chosen the tool and then used it on the file.

Right click on the file. Choose "Open". With. Choose "Choose Other" locate the program you want it to be associated with, click it and click on the Tick Box that says " Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" Click OK and you are done.

For programs already associated, you have to hold <SHIFT> while right clicking, in order to change them.
