    Hi all,

Since the quality of DV or AVI format reduces so much when one converts to a DVD-r. I was wondering if it is possible to view directly from AVI format? In near future, the DVDs (Blue ray and etc) can hold upto 30 gigs and more. So what If I save my AVi files and than trnasfer them to Blue rays or other advanced DVDs so i can get the pure picture quality. Ned your advice if that is possible. Thanks

As a Data storage/Archival format, that's a great idea (esp. once the price per media has gone down a bit). Just realize, it wouldn't be likely that you would be able to directly view the files from a standard settop player--just from within a computer.

Until then, laying back to tape is still a good idea. Even afterward, it might be a good idea to save to different types of media. Redundancy and all that...

That will depend on if any of the player manufactures produce players capable of playing that format...like the Philips DVP642 is capable of now.
