A simple way to set default subs/audio on a dvd with menus?

I've searched around but haven't found anything to do just this. DVDShrink can do this, but only if you re-author the dvd by removing the menus. I need to keep the menus intact but choose another default subtitle/audio track.

And let's say I already have the dvd ripped on my hd, either in ifo/vob or img/iso format. Thanks.

Nobody can help me? I didn't think this was such a complicated thing to do, but I really need to know if it's possible. I got a few images I've been holding off on burning to see if I can edit them. I'll appreciate any help. Thanks.

Your DVD player can override this anyway.

PGCEdit can do it. Here's a guide:

You can usually skip the stuff beginning with Paragraph 18. Save and test, and only if it doesn't work well in a software player do you have to go back and pay attention to the rest of the guide.

Here's another and perhaps easier way. The guide is for subs, but it works for audio streams also:

IfoEdit can do this too, if you know what value to enter where. I think I read how to set default subs on some Doom9 forum, but don't really remember how, right now.

Thanks manono. I've used your second link and everything seems to work fine. It sets the default subtitle and the menu and 'subtitles' button remain operational. I haven't tried it with audio stream yet, but I will.

dimad, is there any advantage in using your guide instead of manono's?

Sorry to bring this back up, but I've encountered a problem. Like I said above, manono's second link worked, but only when you click the button "Main Movie" on the main menu. If you choose a scene from the "Scene Selection" menu, subs and audio go back to the original defaults (unless you select the first scene of the movie.)

dimad, I've read your guide too but it's too complicated for me to follow. It seems you know the code in pgcedit well, do you know what I should edit in order to fix this problem? It doesn't seem like a big problem, but the dvds I'm editing have episodes on them (not a single movie) so the Scene Selection menu is often used. Like I said, I used manono's second link, can you read the guide and tell me what else I should do in pgcedit? Thanks a lot.

Yes, that's correct, and is the main drawback to following the guide at that easier second link. The first link doesn't have that particular problem, and following it is actually easier than it seems. Once you've done it a few times, it goes real quickly. You trace to the main menu, and then to the audio menu to set the preferred audio stream, and then to the subtitle menu to set the preferred subs, and then back to the main menu at which point you hit the "Jump To PGC Upon DVD Insert" Macro. You save it and test it out. It will set the audio and subs you want as the default, and they'll stick unless you change them either with the remote control or in the menu. I have a lot of respect for dimad's DVDRemake (Pro), but use PGCEdit for the job myself.
