What steps are required to edit DVD+RW titles

I have recorded TV shows with my Philips set top recorder using DVD+RW DVD's (PAL format). I hope to be able to edit these DVD's on my PC to remove adverts etc. There does not appear to be any packages to do this though I would have expected this to be a common requirement.

Please would someone outline the steps required so that I know which HOWTO guide(s) to follow. i.e. is it best to convert back to .mpg to get on to PC and then edit .mpg and then author a new DVD?

step 1) make sure you finalize the dvd+rw (on the standalone itself)

step 2) extract to an mpeg file, i like tmpgenc mpeg editor.. but this can be accomplished with many programs.

step 3) copy actual content from mpeg file.. you're not really editing the mpeg file.. you're telling the program which segments you want (minus adverts) from the original mpeg.. i like womble mpeg-vcr for this task.

step 4) drop advert-less mpegs in to tmpgenc dvd author, customize a bit, & output to files.

step 5) use imgtool classic to output iso file from dvd files/folders.

step 6) burn iso with dvd decrypter

thats the actual process.. as far as what to do for each step, you'll have to take a look at the guides.. and there are many programs that will do each steps.. but that is my method for doing it, and it works pretty damned well

If you're using TMPGenc DVD Author, you probably don't need steps 2 and 3 - you should be able to take the disc, put it in to a DVD-ROM drive and work around the adverts directly.

I tend to load the video from the disc as it comes out of my standalone recorder into DVD Author, and use the chapter edit function to set the start and end points around the adverts, loading the same file in again and doing the same around the next adverts and so on, and if you do it in the same title set it appears transparent on the final disc. If you're putting chapters in anyway, this way is no more work too.

I use TDA to extract the file and then use VideoReDo to cut out the adverts. Then load the file back into TDA to author. I'm really impressed with VideoReDo. I have had no Sync problems since using it.
