    Hi,

I know about the HDV Std (1440 x 1080 using MPEG2@25MBS) and the products that are out and quite like the new Sony, but......if I was going for a HD Camcorder I would prefer, 1920 x 1080i using MPEG4 AVC or VC-1 codecs (eg the same as the codec used for the upcoming Blue-Ray / HD DVD players/recorders).

There has been lots of announcments on Blue Ray / HD DVD, HDTV, even HDMI upscaling AV amps, but has anyone heard of any annoucments on such a Camcorder?

    Thanks
    Nathan

No. The problem is those formats are extremely compressed and may not edit well. Also hardware encoders are still early and expensive. We shall see. Give it time.

    Meanwhile the intended workflow is

    HDV 25 Mbps (Consumer/Prosumer)
    or DVCPro_HD 100 Mbps (Prosumer/Pro 1080i/720p)*

Edit in those formats and then encode to MPeg2/VC-1/H.264 or other MPeg4

    * Above that you have HDCAM 143 Mbps and HDCAM SR 440 Mbps
