  1. Hi,

I have a DVD which has an introduction and a menu. I want to remove these from the DVD so that it can start playing the main movie straight away. Can I remove any of the files to get rid of the introduction and menu? Thanks a lot.

The following files are on the DVD:

    VIDEO_TS.IFO 14KB
    VIDEO_TS.VOB 288KB
    VIDEO_TS.BUP 14KB
    VTS_01_0.IFO 84KB
    VTS_01_0.VOB 13,498KB
    VTS_01_0.BUP 84KB
    VTS_01_1.VOB 1,024,000KB
    VTS_01_2.VOB 1,024,000KB
    VTS_01_3.VOB 1,024,000KB
    VTS_01_4.VOB 1,024,000KB
    VTS_01_5.VOB 311,046KB
    VTS_02_0.IFO 14KB
    VTS_02_0.BUP 14KB
    VTS_02_1.VOB 33,790KB

Yes, use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode, it will remove all menus, extras and the rest.

As an extra note, you can't just remove files from a DVD and expect it to still work. You have to reauthor the disc for that.

DVD Shrink is good. Nero Recode also works well if you have it. I actually prefer Recode. It costs money, but I got it free with a drive.

According to the info, the DVD is under 4.38GB, therefore no encoding or compression is needed. Hence, you could just rip the main movie and IFO files using dvd decrypter.

The Recode Main Movie to DVD option in Nero Recode works great for this. It makes a DVD that has no menu or extras. You put the disc in and the movie starts playing. Quite nice actually.

  6. Take a look at DVDRemake, this will do exactly what you want and gives you a preview window from which you can see what you are getting rid of.

I have used the DVDshrink method and it does work, but it may be worth just taking a look at the trial version of DVDRemake as it has some useful features that DVDshrink cant offer, such as removing parts of the DVD whilst still keeping a functioning menu.

I will point out that DVDRemake is not free but a very useful tool if you are serious about backing up your DVD's.
