I want to share a video file with the other networked users at work, but I don't know which codec(s) are supported natively by WinXP.

I created the file using SnagIt V6.1.1 but GSpot says the codec is not installed (4CC:CRAM/msvc Name:Microsoft Video 1), but the file plays OK on my machine!?

Which codec(s) can I use to share it?

    Hi,

vcd level mpg files are supported all the way back to windows 95 and maybe earlier.

wmv should be supported as its included with windows media player. That would probably be a safe bet.

I don't think divx/xvid would be preinstalled. Try wmv and see how it goes.

Wmv can be watched from most windows and mac viewers. Linux and unix players are available as well. If you are in a mostly UNIX environment MPeg 1 is more universally supported.

You can convert your Video1 AVI to wmv with windows media encoder in whatever bitrate you desire.
