Question about the Power Supply for a TBC-3000

I just received a used Datavideo TBC-3000 that I bought on ebay. The manual I downloaded from Datavideo's US site says the power supply for the TBC-3000 is 9 volts and 10 watts (1111 milliamps). The power supply the seller shipped is 12 volts and 400 milliamps (4.8 watts). I have not tried testing out the unit since this is obviously the wrong power supply. I have just sent an email to the seller about this.

Can someone who is more knowledgeable than I about this tell me whether using this power supply with this unit will damage the unit? As I mentioned, I am concerned about testing it with this power supply. I'm also concerned about whether the unit could be damaged if the seller used this power supply with the unit previously.

Funny - the same thing happened to me. I bought my TBC-3000 from EBay and it arrived with an underrated power supply. 12V at 400mA will probably not work. There are internal regulators inside the TBC-3000. The Power Supply will probably be unable to maintain 12VDC and will drop below the voltage required to allow the regulators to operate properly. That's what happened in my case. It did not harm the unit and I don't think you will do any damage either. But you will need a better supply.

I contacted my seller and asked him to refund the amount required to buy an appropriate power brick from Radio Shack. He was happy to do so.

I am currently using a 9VDC 1.2 Amp brick that really bakes after the TBC-3000 has been on for an hour or so, so I wouldn't recommend anything less.

David, thanks for the info. Assuming that the seller doesn't have the proper power supply to send to me, I think I'm going to do exactly what you did - ask him to refund the amount it will cost me to buy a proper ac adaptor.
