I just bought this product and I'm struggling to make any progress with learning to use it. The manual is not very helpful with getting started. I'm at a standstill at this point. Does anyone know of a good tutorial or training materials that might be available?

The product is usually only sold with Vegas 6 software.

Yes, that is correct. DVDA comes along with Vegas. It's not difficult at all learnind DVDA. Have you already got your assets/files? DVDA is compatible with MPEG2 and AC-3 files. So before starting your project, make sure your files meet these standars.
DVDA has a media explorer - you can explore your HDs for your media. Besides, DVDA has 2 smaller screens. One is located on the left where you can drag your media, click to create menus, etc. The other screen, on the right, will give you properties for each media such as End Action (what to play after the file stops playing), Actions for buttons, etc.
Think of authoring a DVD as your Windows Explorer
-Into file(*DVD Start);
-Intro n.2 - if you have another intro of course (Linked to main menu).;
-Main menu (picture or video - it will loop/stop, depends on what u want):
-button1>movie1
-button2>movie2
-link to Submenu
-Submenu (picture or video - loop/stop etc..)
-button 1>movie 1. and so on
Before starting, you can select properties for your project: PAL or NTSC; 5.1 Sound or Stereo; Jacket picture (it's got to be previously resized to 720x480 - you can resize it with PS or any other application that lets you resize pics).
After finishing your project, you have to prepare the files to a certain folder, so create one and give it a name, for instance: Brazil.
Prepare to this folder. DVDA will re-render the videos (just in case you have videos for motion menus). DVDA does this because the buttons have to be rendered on the video. After preparing then you're ready to burn your project on your media. Insert a disc in your DVD recorder drive. Give your project a name, and burn it. That's it.
