    i have a samsung ht-ds490 divx player.
i could connect my pc to tv and the projector(benq6110) but i find it more pratical to use a standalone player.

i wouldnt turn on the pc everytime i wanted to see a divx, and a standalone player is less noisy while working.

    but thats only my opinion.
I love it when a plan comes together!

I have a Philips DVP630 that will play DivX and XviD. Don't know if this is a common problem with this model but I find a get an audio sync problem with moves burnt onto cd-r (about 1 sec slow per 30 mins). However, this isn't the case when burnt to DVD-R/RW. Given I'm a lazy git who likes watching 4 or 5 movies over a weekend without having to move this is an ideal solution

My DVD player (Zensonic Z330) plays Divx/XviD.

My XBOX can play them also.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi,

Nope I watch on the pc then convert if I want a dvd.

I do have an xbox but my softmod isn't 100% reliable when I uninstall and reinstall it.

    I do not do DivX.

Too many different types and still changing.

Not really supported here in the USA by hardware. Not like it is in Europe!

Takes too long to convert a movie to DivX. There are a few capture cards with hardware encoding to DivX but the choices are still very limited.

They have newer softmods now you might want to try also
if you have XBMC installed its plays divx and just about any other format you can imagine

  16. my dvd player plays divx and i DO in fact use the feature..i crunch a 2 hour movie down to like 1.5gb and fit 3 per dvdr...works great and i keep original ac3 audio on top of it all. Video quality is actually VERY near to the original input generally and 6 hours of video on one single layer dvdr...cant beat that.

  18. Planning on getting one that supports xvid/divx in the future. I have a modded xbox that is connected to my PC, so can stream photos/vids off the computer. I have noticed the mpeg2 plaback on this is not up to par with my DVD player, has problems with fast motion, but for home entertainment, it works awesome.

    I just bought a Philips DVP-642.

I've had it for about a week and half now give or take.

Quality of DivX and XviD is very nice.

I use AutoGK to make a DVD to DivX.

Had a problem with AutoGK and XviD inserting N-VOP frames which cause audio sync issues so now I'm using DivX 6 and no such problems.

XviD looks a tad bit better (sharper) on my computer vs DivX but on my TV I can't tell the difference.

NTSC DVD discs look fine on my NTSC TV but although I made it region free the PAL to NTSC conversion sucks compared to other DVD players.

Only problem I have with DivX and Xvid is that you pretty much need it to be 23.976fps progressive ... deinterlaced 29.970fps looks like garbage.

Worthless for captures unless you IVTC but great for progressive DVD back-ups.
