What are the options for making a DVD from Mpeg2 movies?

My problem should be solved in a few days. I've ordered Final Cut Studio.

But today I was experimenting with the trial version of BitVice to see if I could clean up some of the video noise coming from the background in a series of presentations I've recorded to DV. I processed a short segment of the original movie exported from FCE with BitVice with the noise reduction filter. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to burn the resulting Mpeg2 movie to DVD to view the effect on TV. iDVD won't accept the movie. When I try to burn it with Toast 6 I get a progress bar and "multiplexing 'movie name'". But half way through the progress bar it stops with a "result code" that states "Could not record the disc because there is a problem with the source material. Result code -18771"

Any idea what this is all about? Any simple way to view this short Mpeg2 movie to evaluate the effectiveness of the BitVice noise filter?

I am able to open and view the Mpeg2 movie produced by BitVice if I open it in VLC. It's hard to know for sure, but it looks like the background noise is markedly reduced.

You could try using ffmpegX to make the files needed for Toast to burn a DVD, the MV2 file needs to be muxed to a VOB file before it can actually be made into a DVD.

Sizzle may also do the job but I've never used it myself.

Other that that it's DVD Studio Pro.

Bitvice is astounding - I purchased it recently and can say that it's well worth the money, I was very taken aback by how good the noise cleanup was.

Toast found an encoding error. It is very particular about MPEGs. This error some times shows up when using a hardware encoder (possibly a dropped frame) but I hadn't heard of it appearing from a BitVice encoding before now.

Presuming you are willing to re-encode the MPEG with BitVice, Toast is a good choice for burning MPEGs to DVD when a basic menu is adequate.

Another application that burns MPEGs to DVD is CaptyDVD. It also lets you create nice Title and chapter menus. CaptyDVD 2 Lite is available for purchase by calling LaCie directly and the Lite or Full versions are bundled with a couple LaCie products. You can see a demo of it at www.bobhudson.com.

i've had good succes using MPEG2 Works 4....it doesn't make menus or chapters so be aware of that...
