If I want to post a short 15-30 second video clip on a website what is the best format to use? Original video would be in mpeg2 format recorded on a dvd camcorder.

A lot will depend on how your wesite will be accessed generally. Broadband or dial-up. How much space on the server. What quality will be acceptable to you or your users.

People are ripping whole DVDs and putting them on sites for others to download. And people are downloading.

So you have to judge yourself.

  3. Since nearly everyone has MS's player wmv is probably your best bet, it also conveniently launches the player for you if you use a link. It can also esily be embedded right in the page. It also provides a very high compression at a very low file size........

What bitrate size etc to use as mentioed above depends on your target audience. You could always provide multiple files for different connection speeds.
